about the capoeira lessons on tuesdays in bloomsbury london

During our regular Tuesday Capoeira classes we focus on Capoeira movements, conditioning, acrobatic tumbling and the jogo (game).

We run a parallel beginners’ workshop, therefore you will sometime be asked to work with a newcomer; most of the time however, you will train with other members, who are about your level, and work on your personal weaknesses.

On Tuesdays we cover, amongst other aspects, individual movements, practising Capoeira sequences in pairs, conditioning, stretching and flexibility.

Depending on your level, you will work on the basics and more advanced Capoeira kicks and acrobatics and you will have a chance to practise it in the jogo de Capoeira (Capoeira game). As the training weeks pass, you will be encouraged to do more advanced Capoeira kicks, acrobatics, conditioning and stretching.

Capoeira is a continuous process of learning. Our body is learning, as well as our mind. It is important that a Capoeirista remains focused and patient and don’t expect too much too quickly.

Students often get frustrated, if they can’t learn a move during a class, within a week or a month. When the time comes that your body and mind are ready, the movement will come as well and you won’t even know when you learnt it. Sometimes it takes a couple of classes to understand and learn a new move, sometimes it takes few years. It depends on your physical abilities, but also on discipline in training and many other aspects. Don’t look at others how quickly or slowly they learn, work within yourself. If you see, on the other hand, that you learnt something much quicker than the others, be modest about it and respect them as individuals.

In the studio, where our classes are held, we have mattresses for our use there and we give a choice to our students to use it while practising a movement which some might find too difficult to do on the floor.

The studio is for our use from 18:00-20:00, so you have 15 minutes before and after the class for an additional practise.

Music is a very important part of the training and you will learn and practise on regular basis to play the traditional Brazilian Capoeira instruments and sing chulas and corridos, cantos de entrada and ladainhas (various types of songs sung in Capoeira).
