about the beginners' lessons on tuesdays in bloomsbury london

Tuesday Capoeira beginners course is often attended by those who come to the class straight from work. Whatever you day has been so far, it will improve within the duration of the class and you will feel relaxed afterwards and be able to enjoy the rest of your evening.

You will follow the class at your own pace, however you will be encouraged to do things which maybe you wouldn’t have done many times before or maybe never have.

As all our courses, we start with a good long warm up followed by introduction to the basic Capoeira step ginga. If you come to the class one day earlier, you will know then what to do in order to take advantage of the training space provided (there is always at least 15 minutes before your Capoeira class when you can use the space for your own advantage).

Throughout the course, you will learn basic capoeira movements, such as kicks and esquivas (evasive movements), you will do a fair amount of aus (various cartwheels) and have a go at bananeira (handstand) and some Capoeira acrobatics, such as macaco (monkey jump). We have mattresses for our use there. Whenever applicable, you will be given an option to work on the mattress, the choice is yours. You come to Capoeira Agora to learn the art form not to get injured and we want to make sure it stays this way.

Music is a very important part of the training. You will learn to play basic traditional Brazilian instruments, such as agô-gô and reco-reco and to sing some Capoeira chulas and corridos (songs). With this, you will also touch on Brazilian Portuguese language.

Focus during the course is on beginners, but the classes are open to our members, so throughout your training you will also see our regular students training according to their level. We will all make you very welcome and soon you will feel like a part of the group

If you enrol on your second beginners’ course, you will continue with what you have been learning, practising the basics and moving on to more advanced movements and sequences.
